Indie Artist Spotlight: Jay Rahk

Q. How did you get your start in music?
A. I started writing poetry in middle school. That eventually lead to me rapping. I got the inspiration from my older cousin Alan Tariq.
Q. What message are you sending through your music?
A. I have a variety of types of music. The underlying message that is consistent though, is to never give up, always do your best, and you have to feel like you’re the best in any room you enter, humbled off course.
Q. When do you feel most creative?
A. Early in the morning is when I’m at my best lol. I feel like my thoughts are fresh. My mind is active. Now granted I wake up to several thoughts in mind, I get a joy out of piecing them together.
Q. Who are your biggest musical influences?
A. I literally take what I need from certain artist and apply it to my way of artistry. However, Tupac Shakur, Dwayne Carter, and Tariq Crutchfield are my biggest influences.
Q. What makes you unique as an artist?
A. My voice is unique, so I’ve been told. I can rap with the best of them whether that be female or male. I’m confident in my approach and my studio work ethic is comparable to none.
Q. What do you think people enjoy the most about your music?
A. I think they enjoy hearing something never heard before. My sound is one of one. I also speak on real life matters and situations even if they’re not my own.
Q. Why is being an artist important to you?
A. It’s a way for my to express myself. Some people have therapists, some have confidants they trust with their feelings. Me, I have music.
Q. Do you have any upcoming shows/performances?
A. I have a show in Atlanta, Georgia December 4th. I also just released two new singles as well as a visual. Be sure to check it out on YouTube and all streaming platforms.
