HERSTORY
Often referred to as a renaissance woman, Qamil is the CEO of Columbus, OH based production company, Soul Dope Entertainment. She is a powerhouse vocalist, gifted songwriter, published author, creative director, producer and talk show host.
Qamil's musical roots run deep. She is the niece of Norma Jean Wright, the former lead vocalist of the 70s disco and R&B band, Chic. R&B & Soul music are dear to Qamil’s heart. She masterfully takes her audience on a ride through a range of topics from love to heartache to sensuality in all of her songwriting and stage performances. Qamil has shared stages with national recording artists including Sy Smith, Dwele, Eric Roberson, K Michelle and Adina Howard as well as comedians Marlon Wayans and Joe Clair.
Qamil was nominated for Best Female Vocalist at the 2014 and 2015 Ohio Hip Hop Awards. In 2017, Qamil starred in a stage production about the life of jazz legend Billie Holiday. In 2019, Qamil won the WTMH Music Award for Best Female Vocalist.
Qamil is currently producing the inaugural Ohio R&B Music Festival, taking place in Columbus, OH on October 5-6, 2024. Her talk show, The Soul Dope Show will enter it’s fourth season with a live show at Upfront Performance Space on March 8th. She is the host and curator of Soul Sundays at Natalie’s evening show that features Indie R&B Soul artists and bands monthly. She is the owner of Soul Dope Production Studio. Qamil is also working on a new studio album set for a 2024 release which will be released on her Indie label Soul Dope Records.
